Open account on Taobao
If you’re want to shop on Taobao, one of China’s biggest online shopping platforms, the easiest way to get started is via your smartphone. This guide will walk you through how to open basic account on Taobao, using your mobile device.
📌 What You’ll Need Before You Start
- A mobile number
- A smartphone (iOS or Android)
- Access to your SMS messages
- A little patience—it’s in Chinese, so get Google Translate ready!
✅ Step 1: Download the Taobao App
- Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Search for “Taobao” (淘宝).
- Install the app by Alibaba Group (icon is orange with a white shopping cart).
🔍 Pro Tip: Don’t download third-party versions—always get the official one.
⚠️ Warning: Taobao app is in Chinese language only. Google Translate’s camera tool is your best friend.
✅ Step 2: Register Your Account
- Tap “Me” (我的) on the bottom right.( register page may pop-up automatically)
- Tap the orange Sign Up (免费注册) button.
- Choose your country code (e.g., +44 United Kingdom etc.).
- Enter your mobile number (without first 0 digit)and tap Next (下一步).
- Slide the puzzle piece to pass the security check.
- Enter the SMS verification code sent to your phone.
- Your account is created ( with ramdom username)
✅ Step 3: Use your Taobao app to login on computer.
- Open Taobao on your computer web browser (Chrome preffered)
- Click “亲，请登录” (login) in top left corner of the page( page with QR code will pop-up)
- Open your Taobao app and turn on QR code scanner
- Scan QR code from computer login page and confirm on Taobao app and also on computer( confirmation button is in Chinese language)
Voila! You’re logged in on your computer..
✅ Step 4: You’re In!
Once you’ve completed registration:
- You now have a basic buyer‘s account.
- You’ll be able to login on computer Taobao account, browse products and add them to the shipping cart.
- Your Taobao app allows you to login to 1688.com selling platform too.
